- Uninvited Racers and New Small Tires Cars on Mega Cash Days Season 2
As some of our favorite Street Outlaws competitors are wrapping up with No Prep Kings as the series has come to a close for the season, we would think that some of them might be ready to go on vacation. Contrary to popular belief, though, racing seems to carry itself pretty much around the calendar, so Kye Kelley Reaper, Justin Swanstrom and many of his competitors are already in the garage and getting ready for the next thing on the list – Mega Cash Days. Here, competitors will have a chance to go up against some of the most intense racers in the drag racing world and have the opportunity to grab some serious cash along the way. Last time, it was a big tire event that was won by Brandon James from California, a guy whose name was not familiar to many racers and nearly none of the Street Outlaws viewers and yet he managed to grab the $100 000 prize from the Memphis, 405, and many other racers that claim the streets as their own. He did it behind the wheel of his ’68 Ford Mustang and we are sure that he will be coming back this year to try and repeat last year’s success. Mega Cash Days will have a different set of requirements than No Prep Kings. For one, cars have to show up on a small tire instead of the big tire machines that we see at NPK. This time, we take a little bit of a trip behind the scenes with some racing downtime that means maintenance work time. Kye Kelley As Kelley said on his Youtube channel, he has several different variations of the one and only “Shocker” Chevrolet Camaro in his garage. The one that we’ve seen most recently is the No Prep Kings shocker and it sits on a set of big tires. The variation on the table this time is the machine that’s being called the “Street Shocker” for the time being. Kelly also tells us that he has one other variation of the sinister black Camaro that he’s planning on selling because it doesn’t quite fit the mold for what he’s looking to do on race day. Photo by Kye Kelley Racing At the beginning of this year, testing for American List season 2 David Gates running the original Shocker wrecked, and that car was pretty much destroyed. Since then, Wizard Racecars rebuilt it, or pretty much built new car with the parts left from the original Shocker. However, the roll bars and a lot of the staff from the car actually went to the built of the new Street Shocker. In any case, the goal at hand this time is to try and take the Street Shocker from its current condition to being race ready for Mega Cash Days. The new, Street Shocker is pretty much updated than the previous/original Shocker that own Kye Kelley. It has a small block in it, and will be running in a small tire on next Mega Cash Days. So it is sitting on a 28x10-5 small tires, we are pretty sure that this car can run and on big tires. Also can run a 5 inch motor 738ci Pat or 959ci. This car is set up for any engine combination that Kye Kelley wants to run. Kye Kelley did run in Fastest in America show this year as well on small tires in his small tire Shocker with a small block in it and he did pretty good. He made a little bit over the thousand at that tire and that’s pretty much all you’re going to need on 28x10-5 tire unless they prep the street. According to Kye, he feels as if he has already conquered the big tire track and street scenes so, in his eyes, taking a car with small tires to the street is the last frontier. Photo by Kye Kelley Racing Video by Kye Kelley Racing Justin Swanstrom Justin “Lil Country” Swanstrom has revealed his Nitrous powered, small-tire Mustang that he is planning on racing during this event. Photo by Justin Swanstrom It’s named Alimony and this Mustang has a huge engine, relative, of course, to the small tire requirement that they have to follow, and to be honest, as soon as we saw that engine the first thing that came to mind is that thing looks like it is producing some huge power numbers. Well as always, big power and small tires are not the best combos when you are on the street, and considering how bad the surface was last year and how the guys with the big tires were unable to put the power down, we think that Justin’s dad, Big Country will have his hands full to tune this engine properly in order to avoid loss of traction. Photo by Justin Swanstrom A big team like the Swan Gang will surely find a way to get this down the road at the event so why don’t we check out the video and see how the brand-new Alimony Mustang looks on the track. Video by Justin Swanstrom Reaper After not seeing Reaper for a while, we check in with the Street Outlaws Reaper SS YouTube channel as our host gives us a little bit of a tour of his latest addition to the collection. he has quite a few things to brag about and the biggest one is definitely that black small tire Corvette that is in his driveway. Photo by Street Outlaws Reaper SS The Chevrolet Corvette is pretty slick looking and is unlike much of what we have seen out there on the streets or in other competitive drag racing formats. Whether or not this machine will charge its way to the top is yet to be determined. However, in the looks department, the Corvette is one awesome set of wheels. Let’s check out what Reaper has built for this occasion and hear his brand new small tire Vette roar. Video by Street Outlaws Reaper SS “Uninvited” Racers Mega Cash Days showcasing some of the best street racers will be back on the Discovery Channel. Chris “Boosted” Hamilton, both host and street racer on “Mega Cash Days,” shared details on this year’s event. “We’re going to do another ‘Mega Cash Days,’ but it’s going to be different,” he announced in a Facebook live post. “‘Mega Cash Days’ is coming, and it will be small tire.” Another rule that Boosted has set in stone for this event is that he is not going to allow fiberglass shell or carbon shell tube chassis cars, instead, all the cars need to be steel roof and steel quarters. All-wheel drive cars are once again a no go just like last year, and it seems that wheelie bars will be out due to the small tire rule. According to Hamilton, more details will come on prep, water and pairings. The event is slated to start in November, but he’s currently undecided on concrete or asphalt as a racing surface. Hamilton did say that he’s building the invite list. The brand new controversy regarding this event is the fact that some racers have been invited to the event, only to be uninvited a while later. Interesting that there was some topics showed that Black Sheep Mafia group will join the game. These are mostly small tires racers and real street racers. They’ve raced small tires on NPK, Fastest in America and previous Mega Cash Days as well. Those small tire heavy hitters are Brent Self, Russell Stone, David Gates, Adam Plunkett, Byron Jordan, Stephen Brindle, Stan Allen, Ryan Manuel, Cory Cox and Kayla Morton. We think they’ve called them “Uninvited” because Kayla Morton is on the Black Sheep Mafia team, and she has been dating Boosted for quite a while now, so we are sure that this was a very tough conversation for him, uninviting his girlfriend and her team to the race that he is organizing. Furthermore, they are true small tire hitters and would have caused some big upset for those big tires racers that have just swapped the tires on the same insanely powerful cars raced in the No Prep Kings events, and taken the wheelie bars off. - Jeff Lutz Incident In The World Cup Finals 2022 1/4-mile Race
Racers come to the Haltech World Cup Finals: Import vs Domestic Presented by Wiseco (WCF) each year to race against the best in the world and be a part of something special. This year, racers Jim Howe, John Odom, and Jeff Lutz came directly from the “Street Outlaws No Prep Kings” series finale to Maryland International Raceway to have some fun and be a part of the WCF. Photo by Dragzine The trio of No Prep Kings racers jumped right into the deep end of the WCF and entered the Outlaw vs Extreme class. The bump spot for Outlaw vs Extreme is typically in the mid 6-second zone, so it wasn’t going to be easy to make the field. According to Howe, coming to the WCF was a great way to expand the NPK brand and set some records too. “We got a chance to meet fans that didn’t get to see us this year and people who haven’t been exposed to the NPK world. This was a good opportunity for us to expand the brand and have some fun. This was an important event for John Odom because he wanted to set the GTR world record and this is the event to do it at. I have a lot going on since we need to get our small tire cars ready for the big cash days event, but I told Jason Miller we would be here, and what better way to end the year with the no-prep cars than at the WCF.” Photo by Dragzine Lutz has done his fair share of 1/4-mile racing in his career, and even has an NMCA Pro Mod championship on his resume from when the class still ran the full 1320. The WCF had always been on his radar, and this year seemed like the best time to come check it out. “Normally this event falls on one of our races so I couldn’t make it in the past. I’ve always wanted to check this event out and I love Maryland International Raceway, so it made sense to come out this year. The GTO had never made a full 1/4-mile pass and I haven’t been 1/4-mile racing since 2015. We changed the rear gear before we came and that was it,” Lutz says. Photo by Dragzine Before Howe won his Limited Drag Radial world title and started no-prep racing, he was a successful bracket racer. The WCF gave Howe an opportunity to return to his roots and make some full pulls at a world-class facility. “It’s fun to try and run some 1/4-mile stuff like I used to. I hadn’t run this car in the 1/4-mile under power, so it was neat to see what it can do. We weren’t trying to hurt parts and didn’t bring any gear sets to try. The plan was to run the cars in full NPK trim and see what they could do. The only changes we made were to the tire pressure and the wheelie bars. There’s a lot of people that don’t understand how fast these cars really are, and we want to show people what they’re capable of,” Howe explains. The NPK race format doesn’t include qualifying and that was an adjustment for Lutz coming from a traditional drag racing background. Lutz loved the idea of coming to an event and having to race his way into the field again. “It was exciting to go through qualifying again because it’s great to see where you stack up against the competition. The import cars and the racing scene has always fascinated me, and that started back in the days when I raced at the Orlando World Street Nationals. There are just so many badass cars here and I didn’t know what to expect. I came to have fun, there was no pressure on me,” Lutz states. Photo by Dragzine So, how did the NPK racers do? Howe secured the number two qualifying spot with a 5.74 at 248 MPH, however, his race day ended in round one when he broke a rearend. Lutz had an interesting first qualifying session when both parachutes ripped off his GTO on a 238 MPH run. He was able to get the car repaired, and qualified in the number nine spot, but fell in round one, as well. Odom had the most success of the three at the event. After qualifying number five in the field, Odom made it all the way to the semi-final round of the WCF. Photo by Dragzine While running on a 1/4-mile pass, Jeff Lutz’s GTO lost his parachutes. That’s a very scary deal at 238 miles an hour! Thankfully Jeff got the car stopped but the brakes were literally on fire because stopping by brakes without parachutes is almost impossible to do in the shutdown. This is certainly a situation where experience goes a long way. Jeff Lutz is an experienced driver so he can drive into the emergency services vehicle right at the end of the track and he stopped right next to the emergency staff. - Great 8 NPK Finals 2022 and Lizzy's Thoughts about Laying Down for Kye Kelley
Through the power of YouTube, these days, we are able to witness racing events like never before. Not only do we get the broadcast television version of events but we also can see what happens from the point of view of a wide variety of racers. With the nature of content these days, it’s amazing just how much deeper fans can dive if they really want to. We don’t just have to stick with what the major networks give us but we can also see behind the scenes with some of our favorite racers as well. This time, for example, we tune in with Lizzy Musi as she takes on No Prep Kings at the Great 8 in Ennis, Texas. As we’re in the swing of season five, Lizzy continues to be one of a top dog and favorite at every race. Photo by C.Paulshock Photography Lizzy come in Texas with a lot confidence in her car, a Edelbrock Performance/Lucas Oil “Bonnie” ’69 Camaro. She has been making rounds since coming back after her wreck. There is no doubt that bringing Bonnie back in the end of the championship is a very risky move, however, we have full confidence in the Musi team, as well as Robert Hayes team and with a guy as experienced as Pat Musi we believe that they made sure that all the small issues have been taken care of, and the car has been thru its shakedown already and it is now ready to race. Photos by Lizzy Musi It’s a tough deal to draw your teammates or even your future husband but when it comes down to business (and at this level, it’s all about business) you have an obligation to your sponsors and fans to not lay down to help advance someone else. This time it appears that Lizzy didn’t draw Kye Kelley. She is determined to get the win and support Kye with some much-needed assistance in the battle for point collection. Photo by Lizzy Musi In a latest vlog video, Lizzy recaps the Great 8 at Texas Motorcomplex on her YouTube channel. In the video, we spectate a lot of heated situations from chip draw to physical confrontations and Lizzy’s winning first round. We also get a unique opportunity to go behind the scenes in the pits to see just how much work is invested on race day. While some might think that the racers pull on the premises, race, and go home, it’s certainly not that simple. Instead, as we get the opportunity to spectate in this vlog, race weekend is a constant effort from start to finish. Video by Lizzy Musi Racing
- Murder Nova's Beautiful '74 Big Wheel Caprice FIREDONK
Each and every year, the automotive community has a date marked on the calendar where we all go to Las Vegas and share what we’re passionate about. Naturally, we’re speaking of the annual SEMA show where both manufacturers and creators come together to show off their latest wears. No matter what kind of vehicle one prefers or what style they like that vehicle to cater to, the SEMA show really has something for everybody. This time, we head to Corleone Forged booth to check out the outstanding FireDonk builds from Shawn Ellington. As we know, Shawn likes to do things a little bit differently sometimes, and with this particular creation, he’s definitely making people wonder if the combo going to work in a competitive format. Video by LB Motorsports While everyone else seems to be constructing cars to be as light as possible, putting together the most efficient components to a well-oiled racing machine, Shawn went for the huge 26-inch wheels which are not the best decision if you are trying to put huge amounts of power down on the street. With that, Shawn sourced a 1974 Chevrolet Caprice and made it a big wheel car with tiny little rubber band tires wrapped around the heavy and massive wheels. Photo by Murder Nova Below, we check in with a tour of this 1974 Caprice showing what Shawn has done to make this thing special: a 427 LSX built by Texas Speed & Performance, Fuel Tech turbo and 26-inch Corleone Forged wheels. “Not the best thing to race with but whenever you’re building a donk, that is the best thing to race with,” said Shawn Ellington. Video by Discovery Seeing this heavy Chevy throw down is certainly going to create an interesting situation as the combination is about as unorthodox as it gets when it comes to competitive street racing. We have no doubt in our minds, though, that Ellington is definitely a guy who can pull such a feat off.
- Murder Nova Discusses Crash While Testing for NPK in Alabama
For those of you that have missed it, about one month ago Shawn and his Murder Nova were out testing in Alabama, and what looked like the perfect pass, suddenly turned bad and Shawn ended up putting the Murder Nova into the wall. The reason why we say that he had the perfect pass at Alabama International Dragway is the fact that as soon as he left the line the car had one wheel up in the air and was going straight as an arrow toward the finish line. Video by Murder Nova The bad thing happened when his Chevrolet Nova had an oil line blow off which created quite a mess under the car at high speeds. When the car ran over its own oil, it really lost control, violently swerving around the track. Shawn tried to keep it out of the wall, unfortunately, he was unsuccessful and the car did get into the wall at the top end of the track and scraped the side quite a bit. Photo by Murder Nova As Ellington and Phantom get ready to head to Rockingham for the next upcoming No Prep Kings event, they took a minute to tell everybody all about exactly what happened during the test session where things went sideways quite literally as Ellington ended up in the wall. Apparently, the crew didn’t even bring its own cameras to the session, as they said that it was supposed to be a quick and easy test of the equipment where they were going to go to the track, make a couple of hits, and go home. However, as Shawn points out, it seems like nothing can ever go that smoothly as the crew ended up getting tangled into several of precarious situations. The perfect NPK Nova. Photo by Murder Nova This time, we tune in as they give us the rundown of exactly what happened and how the car ended up in the wall. We also get to learn a little bit more about the exact damage to Murder Nova and where the car is now. Video by 187 Customs
- Daddy Dave Unveiled New Audi Car for No Prep Kings 2023
When it comes to the SEMA show, everyone is looking to put their best foot forward. The massive automotive trade show gives all who enter the chance to show their biggest achievements. Amongst the many surprises at this year’s SEMA Daddy Dave’s Audi might be the biggest one that we are interested in. Photo by Daddy Dave Facebook For the longest period, many knew that Daddy Dave was building a brand-new car, and it appeared that none of the predictions that many made about the vehicle he was building were true. Instead of going with something familiar, Dave completely switched up the equation, electing to go with an Audi body to really turn heads. This new car will be replacing his famed Chevy 2 Nova, Goliath, as the main car in Comstock’s stable. Who would have thought that we will have an Audi for the first time in the No Prep Kings Championship in 2023? Photo by Daddy Dave Facebook If everything goes right, Dave will be rolling to victory in his new Audi in upcoming seasons of Street Outlaws and No Prep Kings alike. The first thing that comes to mind as the biggest difference between the old Chevy Goliath and this brand-new Audi Goliath is the aerodynamics the differences as you are about to see are huge because the sleek form of this Audi is promising some major mile-per-hour advantage compared to the boxy Chevy with an upright windshield. Photo by Daddy Dave Facebook After taking the front end of the car off, it was obvious that Daddy Dave and Proline Engines decided to go their own separate ways, so this Audi draws its procharged power from an Xtreme Racing Engines Hemi. In the Live unveiling, Dave told the audience that he built the car to be able to beat dominant competitor, Ryan Martin. While we’re sure that this was said in jest to an extent, it does appear as if Martin has had Dave’s number over the years. While both of these top dogs have been back and forth, Martin seems to remain the number one contender as far as yearly championships go. While the 2023 No Prep Kings Season 6 rules might not be out yet, Dave is positive that this is the way to go in order to hunt down his friend. Let’s check out the below video and observe Dave brand new Audi. Video by Daddy Dave Racing Youtube
- No Prep Kings 2022 Finals Found Ryan Martin As The three-time Reigning Champion
Few weeks ago we wrote about Jim Howe and his Howe Motorsports Screw Blower melting the competition in Summit Motorsports Park. Now we have him here again in the No Prep Kings in Texas Motorplex, Ennis in the final against the Kallee Mills and her nasty big tire Camaro. Photo by Howe Motorsports Second-generation heads-up racer Kallee Mills is making a big leap into the world of no-prep racing. She is joining her father, legendary Radial vs The World racer DeWayne Mills, in the big-tire class with big tire Camaro called Golden Kong. This was fantastic drag weekend at Texas Motorplex. The event was postponed until Saturday and Sunday due to the forecasted rain on Friday but this is still the finals that fans of No Prep Kings event have been eager for a long time. With the 1968 Camaro Golden Kong, Kallee Mills managed to win over some big names in No Prep world, such as Doc, John Odom, Giuseppe Gentile, Brody Melton to advance to the finals against Jim Howe. On the left lane there is Jim Howe, second time in the finals of this year No Prep Kings. Jim Howe has a car that will be very dangerous for his opponents in this year and he show us that in style. This weekend he beat Jerry Bird in the Semis for a spot in the Finals. Kye Kelley is also defeated by Jim, meaning that he cannot fight for the crown in this last race. Photo by Howe Motorsports Overall, Ryan Martin wins the No Prep King Championship 2022. That makes it 3 in a row for the King of No Prep! Photo by No Prep Racing We all know that Ryan Martin is one of the best team players out there and when it comes to the team, he is ready to go above and beyond in order to make sure that the whole team climbs the leaderboard together. He is the best in the business right now on no prep games, however, he did not win the Invitational of the last few races and a lot of cars were definitely a lot faster than at the beginning of the season. It means he was having wins pretty easily at the beginning of the season but towards the end, it was tough for him and definitely tough for Kye Kelley. Therefore, they need to do something different for the next year. Photo by No Prep FAM So to not keep you busy, check the video of the Invitational Finals at Texas Motorplex in Ennis. - What's Gotten Into Big Chief and Chuck? The Most Heated Argument In Race Night History
Another element of any good television show is the presence of drama. People like to see their favorite stars tangle with each other and even scrap, but the arguments are the best. It’s entertaining and drama gives us a reason to come back for another episode to find out if the situation has resolved or if it’s still ongoing. Photo by Dragzine This time, we check in with a little bit of a throwback clip that seems to have stemmed from some sort of misunderstanding. With the previous information, though, it can be tough to discriminate between what’s a simple understanding and what is an example of a racer trying to gain an edge in competition. Photo by Dragzine In any case, a couple of drivers from the 405 in Big Chief and Chuck Seitsinger got into a little bit of a debate that slowly but surely got more and more heated with every word that came out. Eventually, the back-and-forth that was related to the “when and where” of a callout elevated to a screaming match that seemed to get blood pressure pumping and had at least one driver walking away unhappy with the results. Photos by Discovery Like it or not, drama is almost always a part of the Street Outlaws script. Drama stimulates our emotions and gives us an adrenaline rush. There is a lot of adrenaline in supply just watching the races but it’s an added bonus to see the drivers in their interactions with each other. In below video of debate between Big Chief and Chuck Seitsinger, we could see why there is a race master to make important decisions. It seems as if otherwise, these guys would go around in circles for hours, trying to figure out who said what and when they said it. Video by Discovery
- Lizzy Musi Hits Ryan Martin At 200MPH!
While you’re out there drag racing, you never really know what’s going to happen. One moment things might be going as according to plan and the next, well, your plan becomes unhinged, sending you for quite a wild ride as you can do nothing but hang on and hope for the best. This time, we catch up with just that situation as things get a little bit scary when a couple of cars that you might recognize line up at National Trail Raceway of No Prep Kings event: Bonnie and Fireball Camaro. As Martin commented, he put a hot tuneup in his car and thought that the race track was in good condition to lay down a great pass. However, when going head-to-head with fellow competitor, Lizzy Musi, Martin admits that racing with Musi has been a little bit of a challenge. Martin remarks that Musi has had his number over the years and this year, he hoped to turn a corner to try and gain the upper hand. Photo by Discovery When the duo went down the track, Martin did end up coming out ahead. As the drivers began to slow down a little bit, both were moving around the track quite a bit. With that, both drivers crossed the center line, banging doors with one another at incredibly high speeds. Martin says that it was about 200 mph when they hit into one other. It’s something that you never wish on any racer but sometimes, losing control is simply unavoidable as putting down that much power to any surface is something that’s incredibly difficult to do right. Photos by Discovery If you follow along down in the video below, you’ll find the cars end up kissing as they end up making the most of the bad situation. Martin even commented that it was incredibly lucky that the two did not lose control after running into each other at 200 mph. Fortunately, the only damage to be found after the fact was a little bit of body damage and both cars would roll away on to future competition. Video by Discovery
- Street Outlaws No Prep Kings Rockingham Dragway Recap
Source: Upshift 360 & No Prep It’s been 2 weeks since we last heard Chris Hamilton’s (BoostedGT) voice echo through the speakers. It is race #13 ferocious battle to Catch the undisputed Champ Ryan Martin continues and the “battleground” is the Rockingham Dragway popularly known as “the rock”. Just like the coliseum the stands quickly filled up with fans to cheer for their favorite “gladiator.” Bets were being placed left and right, money constantly changing hands and fans screaming to the top of their voice to get heard. It was total chaos but that of positive vibes and happiness. It was an unforgiving track that claimed more that later claimed more than 3 cars consuming them in fire with drivers sometimes getting close mortal like was the case with Robin Roberts who had to be airlifted to a medical facility from the track or like Mike Bowman who narrowly escaped a flaming car after hitting both walls of the track struggling to save his brand new 68 Chevelle. With his achievements in the no prep kings series and a bounty on his head, Ryan Martin has become the most targeted man in no prep racing as every other driver wants the bragging rights to say “I put Ryan on the trailer”. First round chip draws were done at 2pm and as a tradition the event was started by a word of prayer and the national anthem. Round one started with 16 races of 32 cars in the invitationals going down to 16 cars in the second round. The greatest surprise came in round 2 when Ryan ran into some issues in a race he was clearly winning and was eliminated by Giuseppe Gentile in the Gucci nova. I could hear some fans saying “there is nothing to watch here again” and some started leaving the property out of disappointment that Ryan Martin and the fireball Camaro was out. Meanwhile other racers saw this as a golden opportunity again to grab that trophy. The likes of Kye Kelley and Justin Swanstrom were the people’s favorite to win the Rockingham event but this choice was narrowed down to just Kye after he beat Justin Swanstrom by a lot in round 3. Now was the greatest opportunity for Kye to narrow down the gap between him and Ryan and grab that trophy but nobody seemed to see the yellow Pontiac GTO. Silently creeping to the final like a tiger looking moving towards its next prey was veteran drag racer Jeff Lutz in the yellow turbocharged GTO. Photo by Lutz Race Cars The final was not only between Jeff Lutz and Kye Kelley, it was between Team 405 and Team NOLA which is the greatest team rivalry in no prep kings. The cars stage, NOLA on the right and 405 on the left. The lights turned green and the cars took off. Battle between nitrous and turbo down broadway. 330 feet down both cars are still door to door. They both go past the finish line at the same time and a winning light comes on. Exactly 358 days since winning an invitational race in Belle Rose Louisiana and we have a new name in the circle of winners in the NPK 5 and it is Jeff Lutz. Photo by No Prep
- 3 Teammate Rivalries That Could Get Out of Hand in The No Prep Kings 2022 Season
Throughout the history of the No Prep Kings, there have been multiple examples of teammates clashing with one another – Jeff Lutz VS Ryan Martin, Jeff Lutz VS Daddy Dave, Kye Kelley VS Jerry Bird, Kye Kelley VS Lizzy Musi, to name a few. There are multiple instances of teammates not getting on with each other. On that note, here's a look at three teammate rivalries that could get out of hand during the 2022 No Prep Kings season: 1. Ryan Martin and Daddy Dave Photo by Upshift With a pairing like Daddy Dave and Ryan Martin, these buddies from the 405 don’t usually have a ton of drama thrown in each other’s direction. They’ve raced each other so many times that each one knows how fast the other is and generally if they do face off with one another, it’s a pretty straight-up and honest affair. When the No Prep Kings season kicked off at Palm Beach International Raceway, right from the get-go, there was a little bit of drama to mix things up a bit. The controversial race happened in the quarterfinals of the event where Ryan Martin was coming off of a run where he was actually down a cylinder but still managed to put himself in position to advance. In the next round, he drew Daddy Dave, and ironically enough, Dave was the only person on the premises who had the right part to help Martin fix his car. After being a good sport and helping Martin to get his machine back up and running again, the two would head to the starting line to throw down against one another. Photo by Discovery During the race, everything goes down smoothly as each competitor appears to have a really solid pass. With that, Martin appears to cross the finish line first but at the end of it all, Dave was the one declared the winner via his win light. Photo by Discovery Down in the video below, though, we get a little bit more detail about exactly what happened and how it was handled. After getting the win light, it has to be difficult to hand over the win, even if you are pretty confident that there was a timing system malfunction. In fact, we wouldn’t be shocked if a competitor was able to force a re-run due to the error. Video by Discovery 2. Jeff Lutz and Daddy Dave Both of these competitors are widely regarded as fan favorites and also two of the fastest to make their way down the streets of the 405. They were also likely two of the fastest cars on the No Prep Kings at Virginia Motorsports Park. In this particular situation, it’s an early-round throw-down between Jeff Lutz’s Pontiac GTO and Dave’s sinister Goliath Chevrolet Nova. When friends race friends, things are even more personal than ever. Naturally, as these guys race each other all the time, they know each other’s builds inside and out. Lutz has a pretty good idea of how fast Dave is going to go. Meanwhile, having raced Lutz so many times, Dave has an intimate understanding of what’s going on with that Pontiac GTO in the next lane over. Daddy Dave is certainly one of the fastest in the game but not even he would like to see that Pontiac GTO in the next lane over when it comes to racing for the win. However, Daddy Dave also isn’t one to back down so, in the video below, we get to follow along with all of the action of thrilling weekend at Virginia Motorsports Park. Video by Discovery 3. Bird Brothers and Kye Kelley The third round of No Prep Kings at Virginia Motorsports Park saw a match-up between Team New Orleans, the Bird Brothers and Kye Kelley. Despite the rumors, the Bird Brothers did beat Kye Kelley third round as shown in the video but due to a prior agreement made before the race, Jerry Bird didn’t cross the scales due to “guessing” at the tree, giving the win to Kye. “Guessing” in no prep racing often means anticipating the tree, rather than reacting to the green light. Jerry Bird kept his word, although he left on green, what looked to be a close to perfect reaction. He was disqualified for bypassing the scales and Kye moved on to win the event. Sources tell us that Kye did give half of his winnings with the team, so respect there. Video by DragCoverage What's your favorite race of the 2022 season so far? Tell us in the comments below.
- Jeff Lutz VS Kye Kelley - Who Rocks at NPK Rockingham Invitational Finals
Another weekend was full of adrenaline and some insane crashes from Street Outlaws No Prep Kings. Once again we are bringing you the Invitational finals from Rockingham Dragway and this time, we have a couple of familiar faces. Photo by Lutz Race Cars On the left lane we have Jeff Lutz and his GTO winning over Giuseppe. On the other right lane we have Kye Kelley and his Camaro who defeated B-Rad in the semi-finals. If we take a look at the total No Prep Kings Championship points, we find that Ryan Martin is now being followed by non-other than Kye Kelley. The final itself suggests that Kye Kelley might be able to reduce the points advantage that Ryan Martin has at the moment and if he is able to get in front of Jeff, well things might be much more interesting in the final races of the season. Kye Kelley has only two invitational wins this season after being in the finals (including this one) nine times. On the other hand, Ryan has amassed 13 wins out of the 15 finals that he has been a part of. Photo by Kye Kelley Racing Jeff Lutz has had a tough year, but he ended the Invitational Finals at Rockingham on a high note. He defeated Kye Kelley in the final round at Rockingham Dragway in Rockingham, North Carolina. This was Lutz’s first No Prep Kings win of the season. However, it was the second time that he had advanced to final round. Together with Jeff Lutz, Kayla Morton, Jerry Bird and Jim Howe were all first-time winners in the series. Photo by Lutz Race Cars The No Prep Kings Championship is still up for grabs. Ryan Martin is still leading with 590 points. Kye Kelley closed the gap on Ryan with 65 points behind. Jeff Lutz moved up to the fourth place in points, while Justin Swanstrom is in third place. Next weekend, the teams will be competing at Alabama International Dragway. This event was added following the non-filming at Tulsa Raceway Park in August due to the death of Street Outlaws producer Mike Helmann. After the Alabama event, the teams will conclude the 2022 schedule at the Texas Motorplex in Ennis, Texas at the end of the month.
