Street racing poses one of the greatest challenges to competitors due to the unpredictable nature of the racing surface. Unlike tracks, where the surface is more predictable, street racers face numerous variables, especially on heavily traveled roads. Even though some rubber might have been laid down from previous races, dirt and grime from other vehicles can affect the surface, making it difficult to make a smooth pass.

In a throwback video, Big Chief explains that the particular road the Street Outlaws are racing on has caused trouble for many racers, making them look foolish. However, for the racers vying for a chance to face off with the rest of the country on Street Outlaws: America’s List, this surface provides the best possible preparation for them to expect the unexpected. Racing on unfamiliar roads can throw unexpected challenges, and mastering them requires practice. But despite being experienced, several drivers really struggled to find traction on the slippery surface. Among those caught out were James "Doc" Love, Shawn "Murder Nova" Ellington, and Jerry "Monza" Johnston. Each experienced spins and close calls, with Monza even finding himself sliding off the racing surface and into the grass.

As experienced racers, the 405 crew was accustomed to pushing their cars to the limit, but they were not prepared for the dangerous conditions that awaited them on this particular night. The drivers were clearly frustrated by the challenging conditions, but they knew that street racing requires the ability to adapt to whatever surface they face. It's all about being prepared for the unexpected.
