The NPK is back at Rockingham Dragway and for some of the racers, this weekend was horrible. We once again have terrible crashes close to the finish line and the only good thing that we can think about right now is the fact that both drivers were not seriously injured after the accidents.
Firstly, Street Outlaws No Prep Kings star Mike Bowman escaped a severe crash on Saturday.

When Mike managed to pick up a huge amount of speed to finish the race, his car got out of shape and started sliding all over the place. He managed to get the car straight and pop the shoots open although in the wrong lane and for a split second it seems he could in control of the car. Unfortunately, within a second the car started sliding all over the place and slamming into the wall before he comes to a stop. As if that was not bad enough by itself, the car catches fire after that which apparently bursts the fuel cell open and sends its contents all over the track as well as the front end of that Chevelle.

As always, the most important thing is that Mike was able to walk out of the car even before the rescue crews were able to reach the damaged vehicle thus showing everybody on his crew as well as the spectators that he is fine and had not been injured, and the safety equipment has done its job.

Luckily Mike Bowman is feeling fine as he did not sustain any injuries from the crash but his car was dropped off to get fixed before he comes home. Let’s all hope that he will get that car running pretty soon.
Not long after Mike Bowman crash, fans were shocked seeing Robin Roberts crashing into the wall during racing against Justin at Rockingham Dragway in Rockingham, North Carolina.
The race was part of the Invitation Round Two. In the left lane we had Justin “Lil Country” Swanstrom and spooling up in the next lane next to him was Robin Roberts. During the race, Roberts lost control of his car then crashed hard into the wall before coming to a stop. Following the accident, he was reportedly airlifted from the drag strip to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.
“Thank you everyone for the support and prayers! In time, Robin is going to make a full recovery. Shout out to RJ Race Cars for ensuring driver safety in every detail of the car, as well as Pilgrim media & the track safety response team for handling a bad situation so well. We will tell more when we have a chance to catch our breath.” Robin Roberts said in a Facebook post early Sunday morning, right after his accident occurred.

According to his wife, Melody Roberts, he has broken ribs, a collapsed lung and a concussion. The collapsed lung will need six to eight weeks to heel.
“Thank you all so much for your 🙏🏻 for Robin. He is going to be ok. We have some serious healing but his mind is good & the body will heal over time. We feel unbelievably blessed to come out of this situation as good as we did. He was passed out for a long time. He doesn’t remember any of it. He has 3 cracked ribs and a collapsed lung. He has a serious concussion but, all things considered, we are very lucky & blessed! The love and support has been amazing & God bless every one of you for being there for us.
I know he is going to be fine because he is hungry again and snapping out orders. 🍗🍔🥩🥓🥞. That’s my Southwest Kansas Man💙😍💪🏻”

Depending on the severity of his injuries, Roberts may be forced to miss the final two races of the season. He has one win this season in Maple Grove Raceway event against Jerry Bird at New England Dragway in Epping, New Hampshire.

Next weekend, the teams will be competing at Alabama International Dragway. This event was added following the non-filming at Tulsa Raceway Park in August due to the death of Street Outlaws producer Mike Helmann. After the Alabama event, the teams will conclude the 2022 schedule at the Texas Motorplex in Ennis, Texas at the end of the month.
